All internet users receive fraud emails pretending to be friends, banks, eBay, lotteries and even government officials. They are bogus messages from criminals who want to steal important details of other people like addresses, bank accounts, credit card details and important passwords. Once they acquire these important data, they can commit their unlawful acts.
Do not be the next email scam victim: 1. Avoid sharing personal emails with strangers 2. Use spam proof email filters and tools 3. Move unsolicited emails to the spam folder 4. Before grabbing goods, services and business offers, check the company diligently. 5. Create a dummy email account with which to register on landing or squeeze pages. 6. Hide your email details in social sites, forums, blogs, and other free membership sites. Fraud emails either take the form of spams or baits to achieve serious monetary theft. There are reports of victims of homicide that began with instructions from emails to meet strangers pretending to be long lost relatives or someone longing for partnership. It is a sad fact that fraudulent emails can really be dangerous and deadly. Types of email scams: 1. Simple bait – An example is any of the numerous forms of email lottery scams when someone sends an email informing a potential victim that he just won millions of dollars. However, in order to obtain the money, he needs to send exorbitant tax and processing fees.The potential victim of the email lottery scam is instructed to call an accountant to learn the details of acquiring the money. He is told to deposit the money to an account or give the cash directly to the receiving office. Off course, worse things can happen if the victim attempts to visit the imaginary office. 2. Email spoofing – This is email sent by someone pretending to be a relative, agent or loved one. Criminals who are good in email spoofing send fraud emails to would-be victims and wait patiently until they find the perfect time to strike. Then, they convince their prey to meet them somewhere. Then, heaven knows what will happen when the victim agrees. 3. Charity scam email – False charity organizations can also display themselves as the Red Cross or other civic organizations. They would ask some amount to be sent to a bank that will serve as fund for helping the sick and the victims of natural calamities. 4. Phishing – Many people today become phishing data victims. Some internet email scams disguise themselves as legitimate companies or other entities that have business relationships with the potential victim. An example might be a sham playing as his credit card provider. The phony provider asks the potential victim to confirm a password so he may receive late payment information. The unwary victim follows and the next thing he will find is his credit card’s loan maxed out. 5. Phony offers – These are simply unsolicited emails offering fake products and services as well as
online business scams.
It tells about the benefits that the recipient will get upon purchasing the goods. It may also contain links to a website that presents a supposed lucrative online income opportunity.
